Our practices
Centrale Méditerranée is committed to respecting and promoting the principles and best practices of Open Science.
We support and encourage our researchers and students to adhere to these principles and to follow these practices.
In particular, we strive to:
- Make our research outputs as transparent and as freely available as possible, while also allowing for the protection of intellectual property when relevant. In particular, Centrale Méditerranée encourages its researchers to share their research output in the HAL platform. Our institution also maintains two collections on this platform, the first one focusing on the research output of all personnel in the research institutions affiliated to our School, and the second one focused on the School’s personnel. Centrale Méditerranée also incites its researchers to adopt an ORCID research identifier.
- Evaluate the scientific output of our current and potential researchers based on the intrinsic value and level of innovation of their research, rather than according to metrics such as the Impact Factor of the journals in which they publish. For this reason, Centrale Méditerranée is a signatory of the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA).
- Recognize that research outputs may differ from discipline to discipline, and that supporting Open Science does not imply favoring only one open access publication model, as different scientific communities have different means and needs for sharing their research results. Centrale Méditerranée embraces the concept of biblio-diversity, and as such it is a signatory of the Jussieu Call.
- Participate with our local partners on initiatives to ensure the storage and accessibility of research data, such as the Centre de formation et de soutien aux Données de la Recherche, CEDRE.
Open science - HAL
We are convinced that science must be accessible to the public and the entire scientific community. This is why we strongly encourage our faculty, researchers, and students to disseminate their work through the HAL platform.
HAL is a public, sustainable, and responsible infrastructure. It is an online platform developed by the CNRS Center for Direct Scientific Communication (CCSD). It allows the submission and dissemination of research articles and theses by authors working in higher education and research institutions in France and abroad, as well as in public and private laboratories.
The largest research organizations and the majority of French universities have chosen to partner with it. HAL guarantees the long-term preservation of publications posted online. The platform also contributes to their promotion.
